Calverley Old Hall

FAS Heritage were privileged to be involved in the remarkable revival of this medieval historic gem in the heart of West Yorkshire. Acquired by Landmark Trust in 1981, for many years the main hall and ranges lay unused until a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant enabled restoration of the entire complex. Poorly understood before the project, as a result of our work including a Conservation Management Plan and extensive site investigation works, the hall is now understood to have begun as a hall complex with solar in the early 14th century, enlarged by the addition of a great hall and chapel in the late 15th century, and a parlour block and chapel sacristy in the 16th century. We were proud to discover the first evidence of historic wall painting which was revealed as intact across the now-famous 16th-century painted chamber. The hall now operates as a premier Landmark holiday let.
