Geophysical survey is an important evaluative technique which can be crucial for forward planning and risk avoidance for development projects. FAS Heritage can offer fluxgate gradiometry, ground penetrating radar and soil resistivity for commercial and research projects. The techniques can be undertaken quickly and are cost-effective and non-destructive.
Recent projects include location and identification of monastic guesthouses at Byland Abbey, North Yorkshire and Ulverscroft Priory, Leicestershire, a moated hall site at Catterton, North Yorkshire and the buried remains of the medieval castle at Eilean Donan. All these sites are Scheduled Ancient Monuments requiring licences from English Heritage or Historic Scotland.
