Drum Castle

Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, Drum Castle is one of the National Trust for Scotland’s premier visitor sites. FAS Heritage have carried out a range of work for the NTS including a Historic Buildings Survey which presented new understanding of the original construction of the Tower of Drum in the first quarter of the 14th century. As part of restoration work a Historic Finishes Survey was undertaken including analysis of traces of historic harling to inform retreatment of the tower exterior. Analysis of a medieval timber step was also undertaken with a felling date within the first four decades of the 15th century identified by dendrochronological analysis.
