Sitting peacefully at the foot of the Cleveland Hills, Mount Grace Priory is the best-preserved Carthusian priory in England and the ultimate monastic getaway. The monastic cloister, church and guesthouse ranges remain legible including the monk’s solitary cells. The priory guest house was converted into a manor house following the Dissolution and later developed as an Arts and Crafts style house by Sir Lowthian Bell in the 1890s. FAS Heritage were commissioned to prepare a Conservation Management Plan prior to re-presentation and refurbishment of the manor house and garden redesign. Archaeological evaluation identified standing ruins within the gardens as the lost Carthusian gatehouse. FAS Heritage also deployed to site to monitor groundworks required for a new visitor café facility and installation of a klargester system.
