Ormesby Hall

Now owned and managed by the National Trust, Ormesby Hall was for 400 years in the ownership of the Pennyman family. The 18th-century Ormesby Hall sits nested in parkland surrounded today by the dense outskirts of Middlesbrough, and has a special character that is much-valued and much-visited by local people. FAS Heritage were commissioned to prepare a Conservation Management Plan for the property, to guide future management and decision making. The CMP provided the opportunity to explore the long, colourful and well-documented history of the Pennyman family at Ormesby, and included the house, park, farm, gardens and collections. Further work on the estate has already started, and we have since been commissioned to carry out more detailed historic building recording of the impressive 18th-century stable block, long attributed to John Carr or York, which has provided new insight into the development and use of these buildings.
