Lincoln Castle

One of England’s best-preserved Royal castles, Lincoln Castle was reopened following site-wide restoration and renewal in 2015. In the lead up to and as part of this £22m project, FAS Heritage was engaged to undertake 42 separate interventions. This included stone-by-stone recording of surviving medieval stonework, open-area research excavation to 5m below ground level and a raft of historic buildings investigations, evaluations and watching briefs all undertaken within the sensitivities of a large Scheduled Monument, and Listed and historic buildings. The combined results have been published as an accessible book which provides a refreshed story of this Norman powerhouse. More recently, FAS Heritage formed part of a team of professionals tasked with formulating engineering solutions to stabilise and consolidate the 0.3m-mile circuit of castle walls and banks. This included desk-based scoping, project design and mitigation investigation during on-site interventions.
